Training
of Telephone Operators

In 1997 the SLFVH began providing training in telephone operating to
interested members. For this purpose we installed a SIEMENS Console/switchboard.
The monthly training allowance is provided by the Department of Social
Services. Employment has been provided for telephone operators for the
five members who have been trained.
Computer Operators
In
order to keep pace with the increasing emphasis on information technology,
the SLFVH commenced the training of computer operators in the year 2000
with the support of the Sarana Fund of the Ceylinco Group of Companies.
The 2nd year was sponsored by the SHIA foundation and presently we are
proud to say that the federation is self supporting in this project.
Training is provided by a blind instructor.
Employer Network on Disability
We are encouraged by the dawning of a new era in respect
of employment for persons with disabilities with the establishment in
Sri Lanka for the Employer Network on disability jointly sponsored by
the Employers Federation of Ceylon (EFC) and the International Labour
Organisation in 2001.
Their concept is that persons with disabilities have talent
and potential which should be harnessed for national development. We
are maintaining close touch with them with a view to securing employment
for suitable visually handicapped members.
In October 2001 EFC which is the major employer organisation
in this country recruited one of our members as a Junior Executive/Receptionist/Telephone
Operator.
